Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of retaining Perak in the 13th
general election (GE13), said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid
Hamidi. “This is based on feedback received from agencies and political
reports. Of 59 state seats, 31 are categorised as white areas in favour
of BN,” he told reporters after meeting fishermen in Bagan Pasir Laut
here today. Ahmad Zahid who will defend Bagan Datoh parliamentary seat said based
on the people’s support, BN has a good chance of forming the Perak
state government. "We are still trying to obtain more than 31 seats so that we can form
the Perak state government with a bigger majority"...
PAKATAN SI BIADAP, SI GILA KUASA DAN SI PENDENDAM...said they are preparing the victory speeches...With just hours left on the campaign clock, key Perak Pakatan Rakyat
(PR) leaders appear confident that the pact will reclaim power in the
silver state after polling closes tomorrow. Leaders interviewed by The Malaysian Insider spoke of
positive ground reports streaming in from across Perak that tell of
overwhelming response so far from voters of all races.
Perak mentri besar-hopeful Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin even
jokingly said that PR leaders were now readying themselves for an
imminent victory, owing to observations of the marked increase in
support for PR over the last two weeks of campaigning. “We are busy
preparing our victory speeches now,” said Nizar, who took time off from
his final campaign round today for a brief phone interview. He added that the unrelenting work of PR leaders in the state since
being ousted in 2009 had also helped provide a much-needed boost to the
pact’s campaign since April 20.
In our latest independent survey, we are quite optimistic. We have
strong seats now... between 35 and 38. The best is 40,” he told The
Malaysian Insider when met on the campaign trail in Trong, near
Taiping, last Friday. “In these marginal seats, the non-Malay votes are very crucial,” Nga
said, making specific reference to Trong, the state seat where PAS had
lost to Umno by a marginal 916 votes in Election 2008.
Nga added that like elsewhere across Perak, the losses in Trong were
largely due to lagging support from the Chinese for PAS’s Norazli Musa,
owing to their fear of the party’s Islamist stance. Including Trong, PAS had also lost in a total of 15 state seats in
the 2008 polls, 10 of which were lost by fewer than 1,000 votes while
five seats were by majorities below 500 votes. With this in mind, Nga said Chinese support from rural Perak could
help bump up support from the community by 10 per cent and shift the
balance in favour of PR this May 5.
“In Perak, we got over 70 per cent or so from the Chinese votes
previously. If we can push this to 80 per cent, we can not only form the
government but we can form a stable one to avoid crossovers,” he said.
